SI Madressa of Essex held its annual sports' day on 11th July at Lawford Mead School premises. We had the blessings of great weather with clouds and breeze which helped all attendees to enjoy the day in nice temperature. Activities started at 10 AM with all taking part in football, rounders, cricket and socialising. This year we introduced new themes of Helping the less fortunate (fund-raising), Ice cream van, fun for little members (Bouncy castle) and dignitary visit. A fund-raising stall was held with activities of games in support of orphanage and health care in Tanzania. We are grateful to all students and parents who supported the cause. Br. Zainali Panjwani led the stall and we hope that this activity will encourage children to constantly think about our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Our dignitary Mr Simon Burns, MP for Chelmsford West and an ex-junior minister from Prime Minister John Major's cabinet, arrived at 1030. He was welcomed by madressa Principal Dr Qamar Abbas, Jamaat President Br. Sajjad Manji and other jamaat members. He was presented with a present of English translation of Holy Quran and Nahjul Balagha (Peak of Eloquence). He expressed great interest and since, written to Dr Qamar Abbas, expressing his thanks and appreciation. At 1100, all attendees enjoyed complementary ice cream. Following which, students and elders played the annual cricket match with parents scoring 111 for 7 in 10 overs. After great excitement, match ended up as tied with students scoring 111 for 7 again. Ladies enjoyed a competition of rounders at the same time. During all time, people enjoyed socialising and games for young ones on swings and Bouncy castle. Entertainment finished with fund-raising 'sponge the parents', which also involved 'sponge the husbands'! The day finished with traditional lunch where all were served kabab roll, samosa and drinks. It was a highly enjoyed day with huge community attendance. We said good wishes to each other for summer holidays and hope to meet again after Ramadhan on 3rd October with newer enthusiasm.

Madressa organised the parents’ day for the year 2009 on 6th June at Lawford Mead School campus.
The day was attended by large number of parents and the day was enjoyed by all. After meeting a group of parents, Madressa teachers, parents and students gathered in main hall where we first welcomed Miss Emma Dawson, Headteacher, Lawford Mead School. The presentation started by Reception Class children reciting verses of Quran followed by Dua-e-Imam-e-Zaman (AS). Young children of 3 and 4 years of age recited the Arabic verses beautifully and they were able to capture the whole audience.
It was followed by Principal, Dr Qamar Abbas’ presentation. He presented the summary of this year’s projects including:
• Reception Class • Muharram Azadari classes and students’ majlis • Adult classes of Pluralism and now currently on Quran recitation • Madressa library • Participation in Ali Asghar Water Appeal where students raised £502 for water wells in India.
He also informed the audience that Madressa Behaviour policy and Teachers’ Handbook will soon be emailed to all concerned. He announced that Madressa sports’ day will be organised at premises on 11th July which will mark the commencement of summer holidays. Students will be given course work which will be published in second Madressa magazine.
Madressa students then participated in Q 114 quiz. Sisters Shabnam Valji and Akila Manji were the judges and Brother Imranali Panjwani was the Quizmaster. After thrilling contests, Qumayl Panjwani won the first and Suhail Haji won the second prize among junior students. Hamza Abbas won the first prize among senior students whereas Ali Asghar Zaman won the second prize.
It was heartening to see the students and parents participating well in Madressa parents’ day and we hope that this participation continues to flourish. |
Dear Sisters,
Salaamun Alaykum.
By the Grace and Mercy of the Almighty Allah (SWT), Sister Ummul Banin Merali has accepted our invitation to deliver the Second Module of the Q114 system. For those present for the first module, you will know that the Q114 is a technique to familiarise ourselves with the Quran and the first stage of the training was to adopt memorisation techniques using imaging and association to remember and recall the names of the Suwer of the Holy Quran. Sister Ummi’s most fascinating presentation during the first module has left all of us wanting more and we have thus arranged this second module which we know will be received with even greater vigour and enthusiasm.
The seminar will be held on:
Date: Sunday 10th May 2009
Time: 3:00 pm Sharp
Venue: Ali Ridha Islamic Centre, Chelmsford
The programme will start with the recitation of the Quran, Hadise Kisa and the seminar followed by Ziarat and refreshments.
Content: The Second Module further unpicks various aspects of recitation, focussing on Suratul Juma and key memorisation techniques of its contents.
