Sports Day
SI Madressa of Essex held its annual sports' day on 11th July at Lawford Mead School premises.
We had the blessings of great weather with clouds and breeze which helped all attendees to enjoy the day in nice temperature. Activities started at 10 AM with all taking part in football, rounders, cricket and socialising. This year we introduced new themes of Helping the less fortunate (fund-raising), Ice cream van, fun for little members (Bouncy castle) and dignitary visit.
A fund-raising stall was held with activities of games in support of orphanage and health care in Tanzania. We are grateful to all students and parents who supported the cause. Br. Zainali Panjwani led the stall and we hope that this activity will encourage children to constantly think about our less fortunate brothers and sisters.
Our dignitary Mr Simon Burns, MP for Chelmsford West and an ex-junior minister from Prime Minister John Major's cabinet, arrived at 1030. He was welcomed by madressa Principal Dr Qamar Abbas, Jamaat President Br. Sajjad Manji and other jamaat members. He was presented with a present of English translation of Holy Quran and Nahjul Balagha (Peak of Eloquence). He expressed great interest and since, written to Dr Qamar Abbas, expressing his thanks and appreciation.
At 1100, all attendees enjoyed complementary ice cream. Following which, students and elders played the annual cricket match with parents scoring 111 for 7 in 10 overs. After great excitement, match ended up as tied with students scoring 111 for 7 again. Ladies enjoyed a competition of rounders at the same time. During all time, people enjoyed socialising and games for young ones on swings and Bouncy castle. Entertainment finished with fund-raising 'sponge the parents', which also involved 'sponge the husbands'!
The day finished with traditional lunch where all were served kabab roll, samosa and drinks.
It was a highly enjoyed day with huge community attendance. We said good wishes to each other for summer holidays and hope to meet again after Ramadhan on 3rd October with newer enthusiasm.
