Madressa Annual Sports Day 2011
On Saturday 9th July 2011, SIM Essex held its annual Sports Day at the Lawford Mead Junior School. In an effort to create and develop a better understanding between the Muslims and the wider community, the madressa invited the Rt. Hon MP of Chelmsford West and Health minister, Mr. Simon Burns. Among the guests were also the head teacher of Lawford Mead, Mrs. Dawn Baker, some of the children and a parent governor from the school. SIM Essex’s efforts at strengthening its link with the local community was recognised by the local media and one of the teachers was invited to speak about the Sports Day and the role of the madressa on BBC Essex at their Breakfast show hosted by presenter Ian Wyatt.
